SAN DIEGO, CA - The hoarding of rookie draft picks continued today for the San Diego Padres when they sent catcher John Buck to the Milwaukee Brewers for 4th and 5th round picks, and pitcher David Purcey. Buck, a 2005 1st round pick, played in 652 games for the Padres, slugging 99 home runs. He saved his finest season for the end, hitting .296 with 24 homers and 85 RBI in 2011. “We want more picks because we think there’s a lot of talent in this year’s draft. Buck was expendable with Nick Hundley around,” manager Tim Stoops explained.
